A white man obsessed with black women. A modern life laid bare.
When Paul Lines is finished working at his drab office job, he looks for excitement with drugs and call girls, and gets more than he can handle at Deano's; an all-day party where the lights are dazzling and the music worth dying for.
Lurid, confessional and hilarious in turn, BLACK GIRL is the no-holds-barred story of his hell ride through the rave scene, into a nervous breakdown and back again.
'There is always one person in the club acting like a total prick. Unfortunately, it was me.'

5 stars without hesitation. This novel defies conventional description. It's an insight into urban anomie, an account comprised of a series of closely observed episodes that provide an explanation, a basis for understanding, for people who have not experienced modern music and drug culture, either because, like myself they are too old, or because they are too priviledged. Paul is a young man, 29, not a youth, whom life is passing by. Still living at home, he has a permissive and tolerant family, his relationship with his sisters is particularly close. Outside of his family he has few friendships, and those are dysfunctional. Working at the bottom level as an office drone, he escapes from the tedium of his life through music and drugs and his ambition is to be recognised as a face amongst the hardcore at a house music venue. Of course he wants a girl, and he has a prediliction for mixed race and black girls, but seeking drug induced highs inhibits his ability to form close relationships, the drug induced paranoia making it impossible for him to read the subtle communication of sexual attraction. He can see the decline into idiocy of faces he is close too, and eventually realises he is going that way also. How much humiliation will a person endure in search of a transient drug high? To find out you need to keep reading. The story is told in simple and direct language, the precisely selected detail giving it an autobiographical feel.Product details

Black Girl edition by Daniel Joseph Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book makes no sense to me. Trying to follow the authors direction and understanding what he's saying is way too complicated and more than what I want to do in order to enjoy a book.
It's amazing the people in this book are alive. The drug use is unbelievable and I keep trying to understand the point of this story but the more I read it the less it makes sense...it has me asking questions as to "what is it that the main male character is seeking or wanting in life...
This was one of the worst books I have read in a long time. It took me months to finish this book. The whole book wasabi
This was a terrible read. The subject matter was centered on drug use and the effects it had on the characters. I hate to leave a book unread so it took me months to finish it. I WOULD not recommend this book to anyone.
I got this book and never really read anything from the author but I must say I really loved this book and I'm looking from more work from this author!
This book takes place in London which is ok. However I got to the 7th chapter and it seemed like the entire book revolved around partying and doing drugs. Maybe there was a plot to it further into the book but this book could not keep my attention at all. Very poor read.
Not sure why the author chose the title "Black Girl". The main character was attracted to them but there wasn't a main female character.
This guy stayed high the entire book and there was no character development.
It took me a few weeks to finish which I consider slow. I was thinking the author was going to tie the title in but he didn't.
I have read all kinds of stories in my life, but this treasure is one of my favorites. This book is raw, real, and unapologetic [if ever the word existed]. It's about a white man name Paul Line who is telling about his life and how he percieves the people in his life. He's a drug addict, he loves black and mixed women, he loves sex, and he absolutely hates to work. Simply put, he is living the way he wants to live, and he doesn't apologize for it. It's not pretty. Sometimes it's even disgusting, but it is an EXCELLENT story, nonetheless.
I will say the grammar is okay. It's based in Europe. So, it may be perfect for our European counterparts. Either way, it didn't deter me from reading because the story is just that good. formating is perfect. No huge spaces between paragraphs and indentions are fine. Just how I liked it.
I recommend reading this book. It's an eye opening story. Read it with an open mind and see what's it like to be Paul Line.
